We are thrilled to announce that Craig Perrin, our warehouse and transport manager, has been named Warehouse Manager of the Year at the UKWA Awards for Industry Excellence.

Organised by the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA), the awards recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and companies operating in the logistics industry. More than 500 guests attended this year’s ceremony, which took place at the Dorchester in London on Thursday 27 June and marked UKWA’s 75th anniversary.

Attendees at the event were treated to a speech from HRH The Princess Royal, who is the founding patron of Transaid, a charity that helps transform lives across sub-Saharan Africa through the delivery of safe and sustainable transport solutions. To mark its 75th anniversary, UKWA has pledged to raise £75,000 for Transaid in 2019.

Success for Craig Perrin

Craig launched his career at Hemisphere Freight Services (HFS) in 2009, working part-time in various aspects of warehousing, from loading and unloading containers to fulfilment and stock control. He has since gone on to drive the impressive growth of our warehousing service – including the opening of new facilities in Ipswich and Skelmersdale – and has facilitated the ongoing development of the warehousing team, recruiting 16 new staff in the past two years.

In addition, Craig has been responsible for delivering greater efficiencies across the warehousing division, namely through the implementation of the following:

  • Enhancements in ‘track and trace’ services for clients so they can have access to movements of products in our warehouse and through the picking and delivery process.
  • An internal enhancement for booking road haulage – saving seven minutes per booking, and resulting in 46.6 hours saved per month as a conservative estimate.
  • A system to enable our intercompany invoices to go paperless, significantly contributing to our company objective to reduce our carbon footprint – as well as time savings across operations and accounts.

Despite some stiff competition, the UKWA judges were unanimous in selecting Craig as the winner of the Manager of the Year award – explaining that they were seeking an individual with excellent professional and personal qualities.

Commenting on the award, Craig said: “Whilst I never expected to be recognised by my industry peers, it is of course extremely humbling to win this prestigious award. Ultimately, however, the growth and development of our warehousing services would not have been possible without the great team that we have in place. This award is fully deserved for the hard work and dedication every person has shown over the past three to four years.”

Andy Perrin, managing director of HFS, added: “It’s fantastic to see Craig’s outstanding work for HFS recognised by others within the industry. It really is a testament to his determination and passion for logistics, which can be seen in the results he has delivered for the company over the past ten years. We look forward to seeing what he can achieve over the next ten!”
